Capsule Geology

The area of the Rainbow 2 South showing is underlain by volcanics of the Lower Jurassic Telkwa Formation, Hazelton Group. A stock of granodioritic quartz feldspar porphyry of the Late Cretaceous Bulkley Plutonic Suite intrudes to the west. The stock is known as the Sunsets stock.

The area is underlain by interbedded andesite, quartzite and rhyolite. Quartzite is described as having garnet lining the edge of a magnetite band. Disseminated chalcopyrite and pyrite is reported. Massive magnetite occurs locally. Sample MR-213-B assayed 0.75 gram per tonne gold, 86 grams per tonne silver and 5.5 per cent copper (Assessment Report 21765).
